HISTORY: THE ISRAEL AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES (IAI) AND ARGENTINA
The DAGGER, an all-weather capability intercept/close support plane, was built by the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI). The Dagger was an exact copy of the Mirage 5; a Swiss engineer sold the blueprints (even the engine) to Israel and got 4 years in prison charge of industrial espionage. The prototype flew for the first time on September 1969 and 60 planes were built. Later on 26 planes were exported to Argentina (1978) under the designation Dagger. Other 13 in 1980. Daggers, with A4 & Mirage III were the main AAF air-combat element during the Falklands War in 1982. More than half the Daggers were lost in combat by Sea Harriers, Sea Darts and Rapier missiles.
